Tarpons Ready for District Play

By: TarponFever.Net

This week we is the beginning of the district games as the Port Isabel Tarpons will be traveling to Raymondville to take on the Bearkats. With the new alignment this year, the district has been reduced to just four teams, so all four teams will be headed to the playoffs. With only three district opponents, every game is important when it comes to playoff seeding.

This year there have been a couple of bi-district preview games already as Bishop has played West Oso (L,38-40) and Raymondville has played Ingleside (L, 8-45) & Sinton (L, 0-24) and La Grulla played Orange Grove (L 16-34).

After non-district play, TFNet sees these teams ranked as follows,

(16-4AD2) 1. PI, 2. Raymondville, 3. Bishop, 4. La Grulla.

(15-4AD2) 1. Sinton, 2. Ingleside, 3. Orange Grove, 4. West Oso, 5. Robstown

We're projecting a PI will win out in district play, and face West Oso in Bi-District high scoring game- as PI will try to prevent a sweep of the district.

PI's run game is as good as it can get, they have their goal line/sht yardage FB in T. Garcia, a dependable RB with a good mix of speed and power in Cross Mtz, 3 speedy RBs, in Luis Ramos, Andrew LeBlanc and Evan Galvan. And a darkhorse in QB, Rudy Barrera running QB keepers. PI's passing game is barely existent as they average only 2-5 pass attempts per game & rely on the long ball with minimal success.
